Why Haven't You Started Your Own Herb Garden?

Many people think that adding a herb garden would detract from the beauty of their existing landscaping design, when in fact, just the opposite is actually true. Adding a well-planned herb garden to your current landscaping theme can really add beauty and flair to your landscape. Of course, you also get the added benefit of having fresh herbs to use and store, adding flavor to your cooking, and saving you lots of money at the supermarket. Many herb plants also give off their own fragrant aromas, so this will add even more sensual beauty to enjoy!

Herb gardens are fairly simple to maintain, and you really don't have to have a green thumb to plant and care for your herb garden. Herbs typically are hearty plants, meaning that they grow well in almost all types of climates and soils. Once you prime your soil, you simply have to add your plants, and make sure they get adequate water and nutrients along the way. Herb plants have their own distinctive appearance, which also adds interest and beauty to your landscape.

The most commonly found herbs in herb gardens today are thyme, parsley, and rosemary. There are hundreds of different types of herbs that you could incorporate into your herb garden though, so you should be adventurous and try some different types of plants to see what you like. You could do some cilantro, mint, chamomile, or even lavender. It may be a good idea to do some research however, as some herbs spread out rapidly, and can easily overcome other plants that you may have in your garden. You can never have too many herbs, what you don't use right away in cooking, can always be dried and stored for later use.

You could even bypass the traditional herb garden if you wish, and just add a few herb plants in various places throughout your yard. As long as they have water and sun, they will do well almost anywhere. You can also bring your herb garden inside, by simply using planters and potting soil. Flower boxes add appeal to the exterior of your home, and can be a great place for your herbs to grow. Use your creative touch, adding plants here and there as it pleases you, that is the main thing here!

The best reason for starting your herb garden, especially if you like to spice up your food, is the money you will save. With costs rising at the grocery store everyday, cutting corners, even on fresh herbs, will make a difference in your budget. If you end up with more herbs than you think you will use, you can always share them with neighbors and friends, who will surely appreciate your thoughtful gift!

With all of these reasons for starting your own herb garden, why wait any longer?
